When I saw this book at the library I work at, I knew I had to get it for my mother, who's an Anglican priest. It's a gorgeously illustrated nativity story from Joseph's perspective, the perspective of a human called to father a divine being he doesn't understand. How would you teach the child of the one who created the world about the world? My mom and I both think it's a phenomenal book, and she plans to read it out loud for her next Christmas sermon, we're both just sorry it's out of print and so hard to get, because it's so, so beautiful, both pictures and words. I can't recommend it for the actually anti-religious, but I think anyone who can stand the thought of Christmas as a religious holiday, and especially anyone who's struggled with the question of exactly how to be a parent or a role model of some kind, to a child, will appreciate the text, and anyone with an ounce of artistic sense will fall in love with the illustrations, which are truly amazing.

We Finally Hear Josephs' Thoughts!
The book touched me as a single parent , who wanted to hear a mans' possible point of view about the nativity. In the authors' note, she writes that we often hear about Mary's ponderings, but not Josephs'. With the help of the authors' imagination and poetic observations, we get a better perspective of the weight of Josephs' task as a father. The title caught my eye, because fathers need good role models where ever they can find them, nowadays. I think fathers and sons, (and moms too) can sympathize and relate well with this book. I have a specific family in mind to give this book to, (besides my own). The family in mind, has a young father who is crippled physically right now. His self esteem is suffering because he cannot do the things he feels a father should be able to do. I'm giving the family this book to remind them that every father feels inadequate in some way at different times, but that God has a plan for them and the family still values them very much! This book reminds us all that God still sees the "Big Picture", even when we do not.
