Slow build up, good pay offs.
Hickmans writing is complex. Theres always a dozen things going on at once, many interwoven plotthreads and perhaps a bit too much you have to remember.
For people that like few issue stories, this is horrible.
However, those that put the investment in, the pay-offs are huge. Nothings forgotten and it all comes together nicely. Theres some especially nice character moments near the the end too - while the plot is intricate its lead and for the characters, not the other way around.
Also, Dooms awesome.
