Epicurus and the Epicureans are generally disrespected because of how they are systemically diminished and over-looked as to their historical context and the related general implications of when this philosophy was first presented and then regarded under a long standing historical and philosophical mis-representation. Farrington is a similarly understood scholar of the highest order, largely because he was he ventured outside of contemporary mis-assumptions. He was a classics scholar of the highest order who also had a deep appreciation for history and philosophy as well. I don't often recommend a relatively contemporary scholar in this realm of topics.
