Slight chipping at upper spine edge (no pieces missing); no wear-through to corners or edges. Binding is tight, with about 2" cracking to front hinge; pages have intermittent foxing. Illustrated with fifteen wonderful plates. 417 pages. Size approx. 6" x 9-1/4" An interesting and well-written account of an exploration of the Amazon River and its tributaries by Herndon and Gibbon under instruction of the U.S. Navy in 1851.
