If you have read the Wagon's West series which is involved with the Holt family and their connections, then this book which deals with the earlier Holts is very interesting and entertaining. It goes into the early times of the Lewis and Clark expediton prior to the Wagons West of the book "Independence." So one is told of the grandfather and father of Whip Holt so prevalent in the series. Like the other books one is brought into a relationship of the Holt family and their activities as well as exploring an important time in the history of America. I recommended this book and the trilogy.
