Tucker Shaw is a man who loves to eat. And for 365 days, from January 1 to December 31st, he has photographed every nibble, entre, side dish, and snack, every slice of birthday cake, poached egg, mango pavlova, and bacon cheeseburger. Everything I Ate is Tucker's personal homage to food, and in a culture where food is so often the enemy, where so many of us seek to suppress our appetites and conceal our guilty pleasures, this curiously intimate food diary is an out-and-out celebration of the joys of eating. Arranged in chronological order and featuring short captions including date, time, food, place, and any company enjoyed, the photographs reveal one man's rituals and patterns (he has a brief love affair with a morning brioche, but it is his midnight bowl of cereal that really stands by him in the end). What exactly does this food play-by-play prove? The simple truth that personal data is extraordinarily universal. Here is a tribute to the ways in which food sustains us, connects us, and makes us human. With 2500 color images packed into nearly 500 pages (and too many calories to count), Everything I Ate is a fast-paced ride through one man's year-long culinary adventure.

I?m a gourmand. I admit it. I eat lots of things other people might find questionable and I experiment with tastes simply because I?m curious. (E.g., I once thought chocolate would improve the taste of anything. Two words: Chocolate beer. Two more words: Avoid it!)
Tucker Shaw approaches food with dedication, ably assisted both by his copious and catholic tastes in food and the contents of an ample wallet. His pocketbook, showing EVERYTHING he ate for the entire year of 2004, shows color pictures faithfully recorded by his Elph camera and features captions detailing the names of the comestibles, the dates and times of eating and the locations, many familiar to native New Yorkers.
Excerpt:
In 2004, I took a picture of everything I ate. Everything. Meals, snacks, scraps, appetizers, main courses, desserts, intermezzos, free samples, and munchies. If I ate it in 2004, I shot it. My camera, my Elph, missed nothing.
And when I was done, I had thousands of pictures of the food I ate. Thousands.

Okay, given this isn?t typical of his eating habits. But why is the man still eating in the wee hours of the morning? I know it was a Saturday, but still?
Judging from what I?ve read up, Tucker seems to favor cooked oatmeal or packaged children's cereal for breakfast, Mr. Nature?s Trail Mix or gorp for snacks and popcorn for movie munchies. He is truly an omnivore the rest of the time.
