Europan, a biennial competition organized in conjunction with 21 European countries, offers young, highly promising architects the opportunity of realizing their first finished projects. The theme for Europan 5 is "New Housing Landscapes, Travel and Proximity", and the key question posed is whether it is still possible in the present day city to combine two important urban functions: the city as "hub" in a traffic network and the city as residence. This volume documents the Dutch entries for the Europan competition and includes the five Dutch sites submitted for the prize: Almere, Amersfoort, Amsterdam-Oost, Haarlemmermeer, and Rotterdam. Each is fully documented with models, drawings, elevations, and the jury's assessment of the project. In addition, for the first time, a CD-ROM catalogues each of the entries from the competitors as well as non-award-winning entrants. An important addition to any serious architecture library.
