The effect of the degeneration of motor nerve fibres on the muscles is well seen in "progressive Muscular Atrophy." In this disease there is slow degeneration of the lower motor neuron, and often later of the upper also. The motor cells of the cord disappear, hence their fibres in the motor nerves also disappear.
