I suppose it is impossible - at any rate, I feel it to be impossible in surroundings with the scientific traditions of these - to enter upon a disquisition on any subject without, I won't say some attempt at definition, but, at any rate, some recognition that definitions exist, some reference to definition and I feel that I simply must begin, although I shall not go very far with that matter, by asking What is Poetry?
