The object of a source-book is to present to a reader, who has perhaps little leisure and meager library resources at his disposal, such documents from an age as fundamentally explain the life, ideals, and spirit thereof. An anthology aims to form taste; a source-book, to train judgment. The former is a means to appreciation; the latter, to scholarship.
