The author's style of writing is such that the 340+ pg book flows quickly and easily. However, this book was a poor choice for a history reading assignment. The book was primarily about a 13 yr old girl during the mid 1800s having a sexually affair with a married man, gets pregnant, and lives the rest of her life as an outcast. The small amount of reading devoted to history regarding the hard labor conditions of the cloth mills during the 1840s and the general culture of those times is very very limited and could be summarized in one paragraph. In conclusion, this book is nothing but a romance novel that should not be assigned to children in high school.
