Neil Strauss finally resolved to become self-sufficient in an emergency when he realized that government emergency services take days to set up before they can actually start helping disaster victims (kind of like the old saying, "When seconds count the police are only minutes away"). "Emergency" is an entertaining, even inspiring account of how Neil became a qualified first-responder, trained self-defender, and fully ready to help himself and others survive emergencies from small to huge. There are parts you have to steel yourself for (good prep for starting on your own path to self-sufficiency), such as what happened to Bettie the goat. Along the way there are helpful hints and provoking thoughts that may, indeed someday save your life.

Not for 'Preppers'
This book is for SERIOUS survivalists. Strauss has a friendly, informal style, but his topics are dead serious. You don't buy second citizenships and a place outside the country if you're just another 'Preppy Prepper' soccer mom putting away gold doubloons.
The book is well illustrated, in the style of a 'graphic novel' and makes some very important points. The author's journey may surprise you. Good book.

Neil Strauss...
You gotta love this guy and his writing 'style'. This is engaging from the beginning and, as usual, really insightful. I dig it.
