When this book was researched/published, few comprehensive schools had told their story. Community historian, Ruth I Johns, researched and gathered its history, which includes changes in education policy and practice 1966-1998. Contributors include the First Head Teacher and students over more than three decades. The school's early history was influenced by many students from newly immigrant families and by changes to its catchment area due to demolition of 300 acres of St Ann's district. The human stories offer humour as well. Ruth I Johns undertook work with Year 9 students which is included in the book. At the book's 1998 School launch, all students were given a copy of the book to take home to families/carers represented at the School. Like all Plowright Press books, this one continues to be used for research purposes.
