This book is perfect!
On the surface this is a sweet breezy read about a quaint far of place, but there is a lot going on here. First, it is set in a hyper-literate (non-snobby) society that worships the man who devised the sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog," because it includes every letter of the alphabet. But, when the letters started falling off the town statue trouble ensues. Imagine not being able to use certain letters of the alphabet! Can you do with out 'B'? Well, the author in a mastery of form and story does just that. He stops using letters as the townsfolk are required to stop. And what results is a marvel of censorship horrors, political intrigue, and romance. I recommend this book to everyone. It is a clean, enjoyable, fast read that makes you think!
