The Sahel is a belt running east to west across Africa, from the Red Sea to the Atlantic. It is home to some 400 million people spread across ten states, subject to devastating droughts, the spread of jihadist terrorism, political instability, coups d'???tat, intermittent armed conflicts and the risk of famine. The region's problems feed off each other, cross borders and pose a serious threat. Terrible scenarios such as the massacres in the Gaza Strip and the war in Ukraine have captured international attention, leaving other equally cruel conflicts, such as those in some African and Asian countries (e.g. Myanmar, formerly Burma), in the shadows. Since April 2023, the Sudanese have been suffering from a war and an atrocious food crisis of which there are hardly any images on European and American television sets. Sudan is part of the Sahel, and it is in that African strip of land that an international conflict is brewing that is capable of substantially changing the world geopolitical map, if not the next and most catastrophic war confrontation. In the Sahel, many powerful players maneuver simultaneously on several chessboards, where alliances are changing rapidly. It is also there that destabilizing factors emerge and grow that can radiate to the rest of the African continent and Europe. In order to elucidate what is happening now in the most reliable way possible, and also offering a brief and always risky predictive analysis, the author has chosen to follow the analytical method he has been applying for years in his historical research, but subjecting it to a rigorous daily adaptive analysis. The objective is to present a real and updated image of what is happening in that part of the world.
