El Flamenco Es Universal is a chronological tribute to flamenco music over the last 60 years. Over 17 tracks, it paints a deft picture of the style, evoking the images of passion, power, and scarlet red that typify the music. Throughout, mournful, wailing vocals and distinctive, fingerpicked guitar lines are accompanied by occasional handclaps, castanets, or gang vocals. But for the most part El Flamenco Es Universal presents the music stripped bare, the emotion in the performances unadorned. The collection includes numerous traditional numbers, including "Ese Muchacho," "Debajo del Laurel Verde," and "Que Te Miraras en Ello." What the album lacks are detailed track descriptions.
