Denn mit der glei-chen Bitte sucht in George Bernard Shaws Pygmalion die Blumenverk???uferin Eliza Doolittle Professor Higgins auf (Reitz 123). Diese Behauptung zumindest stellt Bernhard Reitz in seinem Nachwort der Reclam-Ausgabe Educating Rita von Willy Russell auf. Wenn der Kern des Inhaltes dieses Dramas mit Literatur fr???herer Generationen verglichen werden soll, so erscheint es in der Tat unausweichlich, sich Pygmalion anzun???hern. Allerdings werden unter genanntem Titel zwei verschiedene Literaturwerke assoziiert, welche zwar insofern parallele Handlungen aufweisen, als es sich in beiden F???llen um eine Verwandlung handelt. Aber der mythische Stoff des Pygmalion, n???mlich Ovids Fassung in seinen Metamorphosen, ist dem von Shaws Pygmalion umgekehrt. So weist das Mythos, das von einem Mann erz???hlt, der sich eine Frau nach seinen Vorstellungen und W???nschen erschafft, meiner Meinung nach erheblich mehr Parallelen zum Drama Educating Rita auf, als das von Reitz angef???hrte St???ck Shaws. Dessen Handlung l???uft geradlinig auf das exakte Gegenteil hinaus, n???mlich die Entpersonifizierung einer Frau - die Verwandlung der nat???rlichen Eliza, in eine entwurzelte, gek???nstelte Figur. Verstanden? Nein? Kein Problem. Ziel der folgenden 11 Seiten ist es, diesen Wirrwarr von Frau, Mann, Verwandlung etc. und weitere Thematiken von heute und gestern aufzul???sen.
