VERY GOOD+. 1st edition, 2nd state (frontispiece is photographic portrait of Elsie Leslie, shown from waist up & lacking the Rand Avery imprint on copyright page). A clean, well-bound copy in tan cloth cover with black and gilt titling and decorative stamping on front (with silhouette of girl's head surrounded by gold sunburst). The only marking is a neatly penned inscription on front free endpaper (Merry Christmas, from Bertha, 1889). Pages crisp and clean. Square of toning to copyright and facing page, all else fine. Cover is clean, lightly rubbed along edges and hinges. Stamping bright, unfaded. Binding and hinges firm, intact and straight.
