His subject was The Study of American History, and the lecture was subsequently pub 'lished, towards the close Of the same year, by the Cambridge University Press. For a full account of the origin Of the Watson Chair readers are referred to the Appendix of that volume.1 The present volume contains the first full course of lectures under the Watson Chair Foundation. They were delivered, in the spring of 1922, at Lon don, Birmingham, Manchester, Shefiield, Cambridge, and Oxford, by Dr. A. T.
