Mr. Auchincloss wrote many, many books; it would be almost impossible to be consistently brilliant, especially considering he cranked out a book year while enduring a busy law career. "East Side Story" reads like a rush job done to meet a deadline and fulfill a contract. The Old Money class of New York -- hashed out over and over and over again -- get another tepid rerun.
