It is certain that the heavens were carefully watched by our soldiers; indeed one of the watchmen, private Thomas Murphy of Company B, discovered and reported a new comet at 2h 20m A. M., on June 22, 1881, which was in advance of any other of the numerous claims reported by the newspapers.
