The Civil War is over and three men are brought together through fate and circumstance: Luke Sampson, the Tennessee farmer, from whom the war stole his family and their farm; Sam Weston, the Texas cowboy left alone with nothing but a dream of some day having a ranch of his own; Silas Dorington, the mountain man and trapper who, after accidentally striking it rich, sets out to save his beloved mountains from being totally ruined by the onslaught of the gold rush.
