This was a fun read. It's a story (a lot of different stories) about one guy's crazy tribulations. From early life to well into adulthood, the author recounts some of the strange places and situations he somehow continually finds himself in. On of the best things about this book, and there were many, was the author's sense of humor in the face of stupid mistakes and twists of fate. I laughed out loud many times (disturbing my fellow train commuters I'm afraid). I'll just say - if you want to read something totally different that's well written and edited and will keep you wanting to see what will happen next, then give it a try.

What a good read this was!
"I couldn't compose a deep thought to save my life, not that I understood my life could ever be taken from me." And so begins this surprisingly good story of one man's crazy adventures from youth until his late 20s. Along the way, he learns several times over that his life can be taken from him. From encounters with ferocious wildlife, to battles with the frozen climate of the north, he somehow manages to keep plugging along. The stories are quite varied, from the antics of youth and the party days of college to bonding with his best friend (Hank, the dog) and the trials of working on the oil spill in Alaska. I really enjoyed this book. It made me laugh out loud several times, gave me a little something to think about, and one story even made me a bit misty (I'm a huge dog lover). It was well written and well edited. I highly recommend it!

An honest look at living in Alaska
It's a funny memoir with a wide range of stories, but I enjoyed the stories about Alaska the most (as I lived there for a brief time). Living in the Arctic isn't easy, I'm glad he had his dog - Hank - with him!
