Good read
I remember this title from Children's Lit, and finally located it. Told in first person, the story is written from the viewpoint of a 12 yo orphan who is taken in by the wealthy eccentric ladder builder. At first it seems like a great fit, but then he makes friends with the man's dog and things begin to change with that friendship. Well written and explores trust and courage in a boy who is on his own and learned not to trust.
