Maybe you could actually use Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia to look things up, but it is more a book to randomly pick a letter and read its entries in any order. Then you will not miss anything, providing an almost chaotic tour of Doctor Who over time and space.
Entries range in length from a mere sentence to an entire page. Sadly for some, Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia only covers the first three seasons from 2005 onwards. That said, the book is an invaluable resource for the Dr Who novice, learning about the recent show's characters and continuity. Most Dr Who addicts will find several nuggets of detail, such as, minor characters' names and details.
The book is not for Dr Who perfectionist needing information cross-referenced with 1963-1989 episodes. Of some compensation, there are a few entries from the recent series hearkening back to earlier times, in which case a few older details are sometimes included.
