In this story, we find Dixie Morris, who has plenty of fun and excitement packed into her eleven-year-old character, but she also understands when it's time to be serious. She's moving from Alaska (where she had been staying with family friends) to Africa, where her parents are living. They are missionaries in a little village, where Dixie immediately makes new friends, especially with the native chief's children, Wamba & Laski.
Dixie has to trade in all her modern luxuries for the beautiful animals and scenery that she finds in her new home and she's very content with it. And of course, I cannot forget to mention one of the best things that happens to Dixie while in Africa....it's Flash, the spectacular cheetah that she rescues. Plus, she also gets to firsthand experience a wonderful miracle from God that effects the entire village.
This is the first book I've read, that's written by Gilbert Morris. The book kept me very interested in it, but the major thrilling parts should have been described a bit better--I kept feeling like I was missing out on some of the important happenings, that should have caused more excitement. But that is the only thing I didn't particularly like about the book, so I'm not complaining. Other than that, the book was a fantastic journey, both physically & spiritually.
All in all, a very relaxing and enjoyable read. I'll definitely be reading more of Morris's books.
