Over the past 12 years I have spent one week each year biking around Vermont's roads and mountains. Most recent years in the Northeast Kindgom. Last year I read an article in one of the small Inns on Lake Willoughby about a new movie, "Disappearances" that was produced by a small Vermont production company which stars Chris Christopherson. When I got back home in NJ, I decided to see if I could locate the book on the internet. I was able to get a nice first edition at a price lower than paperbacks available in stores. Howard's "Disappearances" relates a story of family ties, adventure, and the decline of the quality of our lives as we all remembered in years past. Mosher's characters are among the most interesting I have ever read, and his story telling ability will keep most readers eager for the next adventure or character introduction. "Disappearances" is an adventure story that takes place during the Probition in 1932, that takes the Bonhomme family into Canada in order to smuggle whiskey back into Vermont for money necessary to survive a harsh Vermont winter. Mosher's ability to detail historical facts about the Vermont, describe the natrual beauty of the State, and spin an exciting story along the way, makes his novels interesting at any age.
