Op posite the town the river is over one mile in width, with a Channel thirty-two feet in depth, bordered by a country enriched by the labor of industrious and skillful husbandry. Chester and Ridley creeks, which empty into the Delaware here, within three-fourths of a mile of each other, and into which its tides run for three miles, are available to a profitable extent for the transportation of tonnage and the former, winding almost through the heart of the town, enables the riv er craft to enter and land their freights near the cen ter of trade.
