This book is a great way for children to think of what they want to be when they grow up, and give them faith that they can do whatever they want to do! This story is a true story about a painter that loved to draw as a kid, and decided to be an artist as his profession. This book is craftily illustrated like a Mexican portrait because the artist is originally from Mexico, but is also interesting how when he travels the world, the illustrations are still from the Mexican point of view. This gives a global perspective to children and the illustrations make the book come alive. Throughout the book, there are also different lessons over the different styles of artwork that he experimented with. I feel this book is very important to children who become easily discouraged and shows them that any hard work can pay off.

This was a wonderful picture book! the way that Duncan portrayed Diego was amazing. The way he showed that Diego was open to travel to another place to learn more about his passion was awesome. The was he tied the old ways of things to the new way of doing those things is an eye opener for kids. The illustrations in this book tell the story right along with the words. They are very colorful and eye popping. I would consider this book informational along with a children's picture book. I would consider it informational because it tells facts about different places and about the people that live in those places. I read this book twice because I liked it so much!
