Der Band enth???lt eine Biographie des Begr???nders und ersten Herausgebers der PhB, des Juristen und Philosophen Julius Hermann von Kirchmann (1802-1884), ebenso wie eine Darstellung der wechselvollen Geschichte der Reihe, die seit ihrer Gr???ndung 1868 f???nf Verlage durchlief, bevor sie 1911 von Felix Meiner ???bernommen und zum Grundstock seines im gleichen Jahre ins Leben gerufenen Verlages wurde. Die Bibliographie der PhB belegt sodann in einer eigens entwickelten, diplomatischen Beschreibungsart alle von 1868 bis 1985 in dieser Reihe erschienenen 1680 Ausgaben, darunter zahlreiche bisher bibliographisch nicht nachzuweisende B???nde.
