Heutzutage sorgt besonders der Widerspruch zwischen der Alltagsdefinition von Freiheit und neueren Ergebnissen aus der Neurobiologie f???r Aufruhr. Neurowissenschaftler behaupten, den freien Willen als eine Illusion entlarvt zu haben. Zwar w???rden Menschen ihr Denken, Wollen und Handeln innerhalb gegebener Einschr???nkungen als frei empfinden, in Wirklichkeit sei jedoch "der subjektiv empfundene Willensakt [...] nicht die Ursache, sondern [lediglich] ein Bewusstseinskorrelat von Willk???rhandlungen, die vom Gehirn vorbereitet und gesteuert werden."1 Auch Martin Luther ist der ???berzeugung, dass der menschliche Wille nicht frei sein k???nne, da "Gott alles mit unwandelbarem, ewigem und unfehlbarem Willen sowohl vorhersieht, sich vornimmt und ausf???hrt."2 Neben diesen Positionen, die dem Menschen seinen freien Willen absprechen, gibt es eine Reihe von Geisteswissenschaftlern, die den gegens???tzlichen Standpunkt vertreten, dass neuro-wissenschaftliche Ergebnisse die Freiheit des menschlichen Willens nicht au???er Kraft setzen k???nne. In dieser Arbeit soll vordergr???ndig die Frage er???rtert werden, wie die teilweise entgegengesetzten und sich g???nzlich widersprechenden Perspektiven auf den Freiheitsbegriff ???berhaupt zusammengedacht werden k???nnen. Diesbez???glich werde ich zun???chst die theologische Perspektive anhand von Luthers Theologie skizzieren, dann die Ergebnisse der Neurobiologie anhand der Standpunkte von Wolf Singer und Gerhard Roth erl???utern und anschlie???end auch die soziologische Perspektive kurz umrei???en.
