K???nnen neue Rechte und Freiheiten durch Roma zur Selbstorganisation und zur Ver???nderung des status quo genutzt werden? Diesen Fragen geht die Arbeit am Beispiel Rum???niens nach, wobei die unterprivilegierten Segmente der dortigen Roma-Bev???lkerung im Mittelpunkt der Betrachtung stehen. Auf der Grundlage theoretischer Vor???berlegungen zum Ethnizit???tskonzept, zum Randgruppenbegriff und zur Bedeutung und Funktion von Stereotyp und Vorurteil werden zun???chst spezifische historische Erfahrungen von Roma in Rum???nien bis zum Ende des Sozialismus beleuchtet. Nach der anschlie???enden Untersuchung rechtlich-institutioneller Grundlagen des Minderheitenschutzes nach 1989 ist der Hauptteil der Studie der Analyse der Dimensionen, Hintergr???nde und Folgen von Verarmung und verst???rkter gesellschaftlicher Isolation sowie der Er???rterung von Formen der ethnospezifischen Selbstorganisation gewidmet. Eine Zusammenfassung der Ergebnisse mit Blick auf Handlungsm???glichkeiten und Entwicklungsperspektiven rundet die Arbeit ab.Die Arbeit hinterfragt tradierte Klischees von "den Zigeunern" und soll ???ber eine Gro???gruppe informieren, die ein kaum bekannter Bestandteil der europ???ischen Kulturlandschaften ist. Gleichzeitig veranschaulicht die Studie die Komplexit???t einer europ???ischen Marginalit???tsproblematik.
