Some of these are among our most efficient and useful means of ultimate relief and beneficent influence. They are also very powerful and prompt though indirect anaesthetics. A blister sometimes soothes a patient into a sweet sleep by diverting a local dea termination previously painful; and I have seen both neural= git and inflammatory agony so suddenly and perfectly res moved by acupuncture that the patient fainted at once from - what he himself termed - absolute and positive pleasure.
