The vendor did his job perfectly. Quick delivery, book in excellent condition, etc. However, I was a little disappointed with the content of the diary. Thomas Mann was a gifted and prominent writer who lived during one of the most important time spans in modern history. I was hoping for more insights into the details of events leading up to World War II. I also would have expected a little more information regarding the impact of the major inventions of the day - the automobile, the telephone, movies, etc. - and also commentary on the broad social trends and movements of the day. In retrospect, I suppose I was expecting more of a historical document, and less "what I had for breakfast this morning", "I walked on the beach for an hour this afternoon", that sort of thing. For those who are deeply interested in the pedestrian details of Mann's life, the diary could be for you. I would not recommend it for others.
