I loved the first book in the series - falling in love with Father Max and all the residents of Nether Monkslip. I couldn't wait to read the other books and cheered with Max and Awena married and became first time parents.
Finding Devil's Breath in the new book section of my local library, I checked it out and couldn't wait to revisit Nether Monkslip's quirky residents.
The first section of the book (53 pages) featured characters with no redeeming qualities. I could not relate to any of the characters and kept asking myself, what happened to Max?
Max and DCI Cotton finally join the story to solve the murder(s). I read the entire book hoping it would get better but I was disappointed. The heart of the other books in the series is missing.
Mystery solved but I still don't care about any of the characters involved in the murders.
