Die Publikation bundelt damit die Ergebnisse der interdisziplinaren Tagung "Deutsche illustrierte Magazine - Journalismus und visuelle Kultur in der Weimarer Republik". In Bausteinen zu einer Kulturgeschichte der Magazine werden Strategien der visuellen Kommunikation aufgezeigt und Aspekte des zeitgenossischen Journalismus und der Fotografie- und Verlagsgeschichte aufgegriffen; Kunst- und literaturgeschichtliche Ansatze zur Asthetik der illustrierten Zeitschriften und zur visuellen Wahrnehmung werfen Schlaglichter auf die inhaltliche Ausrichtung der Titel im Kontext kultureller Umbruche.
