Seller's Description:
Very Good. Published 1860, first edtion, inscribed by Manuel Cañete to F. F. de Navarrete, quarter green morocco and decorated boards, a binding of the epoch, very good, light rubbing and foxing, the prologue is 29 pp long, followed by 70 pp. of short stories. Caballero was the pseudonym of Cecilia de Faber, born to a Swiss father who worked in Cadiz and his Spanish wife. Cecilia married a total of four times, and achieved fame in the 1840s with the publication of a vastly popular novel, 'La Gaviota, ' that is considered still her best work. Because of her background and wide travel (her last husband had consular positions) and a gift for languages (some of her works were written first in French or German before appearing in Spanish), she brought a fresh eye to Spanish lore and customs.
