I always think of Detroit as being just a crummy, dirty town with nothing going on except sports. It apparently wasn't always like that. Based on a murder in the author's family, this book tells the story of Detroit in the early 20th century when everyone was headed there for jobs. During Prohibition, a lot of the illegal booze came from Canada through Detroit so there were people going there for that too. Lots of graft and corruption in the city government added to the juiciness of this book. The author can really tell a story and does a great job with dialogue. This should be a movie!!
