Cruppers.--There is a crupper to each horse, consisting of the dock, the leather for which is cut PL Ftseixx' 3" wide and l'-2"long; the edges are turned into the centre and then doubled and rounded, without stuffing--two buckles, " wide and two loops for ditto--the body, If" wide, 1-8" long, split at the rear end into two billets, 10" long, " wide, which are buckled to the dock; the other end has a buckle and four loops for the billet of the back-strap; a layer, " wide, 10" long, is sewed on this part, leaving an opening of 2," at the distance of 4" from the front end, for the hip-straps to pass through--the backstrap, li" wide, 2'-7" long; the rear end is inserted between the layer and the body of the crupper as far as the opening for the hip-straps, and a short layer is inserted also behind the opening, to protect the seams from the rubbing of the hip-straps; the front end of the back-strap passes through an opening in the loin-strap and through the crupper-loop of the saddle, and returns to the buckle on the body of the crupper--a sliding-loop confines the back-strap to the crupper-loop.. 86.
