A writer about 150 years ago thus records the experience of some travellers on horseback on their arrival at Dovedale Proceeding towards the edge of the plain, they came to a precipice of an astounding height from which was a stupendous view into a deep valley, the hills rising on the opposite side covered with wood nearly half a mile perpendicularly.
