Lenz ging 1781 nach Moskau, wo er als Hauslehrer arbeitete, in Kreisen russischer Freimaurer und Schriftsteller verkehrte, mit an der Ausarbeitung verschiedener reformerischer Pl???ne arbeitete und B???cher zur russischen Geschichte ins Deutsche ???bersetzte. Im Jahr 1783 wurde Lenz in der Freimaurerloge Sphinx in Moskau aufgenommen und sp???ter in der Loge Drei Fahnen angenommen. Er half den Logenbeamten, die Arbeiten auf Deutsch durchzuf???hren, und war einige Zeit ab 1784 Logenbeamter.
