Bernward schrieb zwar den Psalter nicht selbst, wie das mehrfach das Michaeliskloster durch namentliche Zusatze glauben machen wollte, gleichwohl zeigt die Qualitat der Schrift und des Buchschmucks ihn aber als Auftraggeber und wichtigen Kirchenmann, der die notwendigen Beziehungen und Moglichkeiten zur Anwerbung eines auswartigen hochkaratigen Schreibers und Initialenmalers wie Guntbald besass. Auch die besondere Textausstattung der Handschrift, die zusatzliche Aufnahme der Busspsalmen sowie zweier Formulare fur das Stundengebet an Ostern und zu Ehren der Heiligen Dreifaltigkeit, lasst auf seine Einflussnahme schliessen. Erst 2007 wurde der zuvor kaum erforschte Psalter durch den Erwerb fur die Herzog August Bibliothek der Wissenschaft zuganglich gemacht und ein entsprechendes Forschungsprojekt gegrundet. Der Band Der Bernward-Psalter im Wandel der Zeiten widmet sich nun erstmals eingehend dieser Forschungslucke. Mittels einer interdisziplinaren Vorgehensweise werden Aspekte der Kodikologie, Palaographie, Kunstgeschichte, Hagiographie und der Textredaktion und ihre Position hinsichtlich der liturgiegeschichtlichen Entwicklung des Breviers analysiert. Berucksichtigt werden ausserdem Aspekte des Kulturtransfers sowie die im Laufe der Jahrhunderte veranderte Nutzung und Wertschatzung der Handschrift als Zeugnis Bischof Bernwards.
