Among the poorly assembled, carelessly packaged best-ofs issued by Relativity following the label's absorption of thrash metal haven Combat Records in the early '90s, Dark Angel's Decade of Chaos stands out as the most complete. One of the only volumes in the series to truly represent a band's entire oeuvre, Decade of Chaos features choice cuts from all four of the band's official albums -- from its rudimentary debut through to its landmark progressive thrash swansong, Time Does Not Heal. These include such career highlights as "Darkness Descends," "The Promise of Agony," "Pain's Invention, Madness," and "Act of Contrition." The fact that the tracks are sequenced in haphazard fashion doesn't do much for continuity, especially considering the band's daunting evolutionary growth from start to finish, but at least someone was smart enough to leave the first album's demo-like title track, "We Have Arrived," for the very end. Ultimately, for one-stop shopping convenience, Decade of Chaos can't be beat. Unfortunately, this collection has long been out of print, so curious fans will have to visit their used record stores and keep their fingers crossed. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
