Don't read Death of a Musketeer until you have read The Three Musketeers. Once you have done that, you will feel like you are revisiting familiar friends - although Sarah D'Almeida presents D'Artagnan as less shrewd than Dumas does, Porthos as much more perceptive, and Athos as almost clinically depressed, at least Aramis shows some signs of being more than a womanizer. Still, this is a nice pastiche. Personally, I thought it was necessary to overlook a couple of amazing coincidences (i.e. continue to suspend disbelief) to enjoy the story. Suffice to say, that once again the Duke of Buckingham very nearly compromises the Queen - and our heroes save the day. As for the mystery, the "whodunnit," well, no sense spoiling it for anyone reading this.
