This book focuses on Shaw's tremendous output as a musician (one feels tired just reading about all the things he did!), along with a picture of American performance music during his time. People he worked with extensively (Alice Parker, Thomas Pyle, Florence Kopleff) also take their turns in the spotlight. As a Shaw fan for dozens of years, I found it fascinating.
