If you think of this as a warm up for her later book, "The end of Mr. Y" then I suppose it's fine. Writing muscles are flexed but the depth of invention just isn't there, I got it way before the end which was a shame. Perhaps if I'd read this first I might not have been so disappointed, Mr. Y is such a tour de force and leaves this very much in the shade.
