Vor einigen Jahren erschien in Italien bereits ein Buch über "Die Inka und weitere bedeutende Kulturen des Andenraumes". Es kam ebenfalls in deutscher Übersetzung auf den Markt und neben dem peruanischen Archäologen Walter Alva war Maria Longhena als Mitautorin verzeichnet. Letztere hat nun mit Claudio Cavatrunci und Giuseppe Orefici gewissermaßen eine rein italienische Publikation vorgelegt. Beide Bücher verfolgen ein ähnliches Konzept mit einem Textteil, der die einzelnen indigenen Kulturen Perus vorstellt (jeweils reich illustriert) und einem ausführlichen Teil, in dem einzelne archäologische Fundstätten vorgestellt werden. In sechs Jahren kann sehr viel passieren-und das ist glücklicherweise auch in der Erforschung der altperuanischen Kulturen der Fall gewesen. Deshalb ist das neue Buch auch unbedingt zu begrüßen. Vor allem der Textteil ist ausführlicher geworden als beim "Vorgänger" und nimmt auf neueste Forschungsergebnisse Bezug. Leider kommen die Ergebnisse der Grabungen in Caral viel zu kurz. Dagegen geht G. Orefici ausführlich auf die neueren Forschungsergenisse zur Nasca-Kultur ein. Der gesamte Band ist mit hervorragenden Illustrationen ausgestattet, bei denen es sich um neue Aufnahmen handelt, die wirklich sehr gut gelungen sind. Dem Textteil schließt sich ein mehr als 100 Seiten starker Teil über archäologische Fundstätten an. Alle werden auf mehreren Seiten mit fundierten Texten und mehreren farbigen Abbildungen vorgestellt. Es sind dies Cerro Sechín, Chavín de Huántar, Chan Chan, Tiahuanaco (das zwar im heutigen Bolivien liegt, jedoch für die peruanische Geschichte eine wichtige Rolle gespielt hat), Sillustani, Pachacámac, Cuzco, der archäologische Park von Sacsahuamán, Tambo Colorado, Pisac, Racchi, die Isla del Sol im Titicacasee (die eigentlich auch noch zu Bolivien gehört), Ollantaytambo und Machu Picchu.
