This was a unusual book, part horror, part science fiction. The time periods spanned between the 1940's, the 1960's and the present day. Also there were very many characters to keep track of, I wasn't even sure who the main character was until I got a good ways into the book. I do understand why the author made it this way, to give you an understanding of how the creature came into being. I didn't really get into it but someone who likes this type of story would probably like it.
