This is the first CD issue of these two classic albums by the brilliant Canadian band, Martha and the Muffins, who briefly changed their name to M+M for two albums, one of which was Mystery Walk. Both of these albums are classic examples of experimental pop music from the 1980s. It's all here, layered sounds, enigmatic lyrics, and wonderful dance beats (included in this package is their dance hit "Black Stations/White Stations"). When one looks at the packaging, it is painfully clear that the band has not been involved with these reissues. This is a shame, as the packaging is poor (poor reproductions of the original album art, and no information on musicians or recording), and the transfer to CD is not as good as it could be (for comparison sakes, listen to the compilation assembled by Mark Gane and Martha Johnson released in 1998 titled Then Again for an example of CD remastering of this band). The music remains fresh, but the overall presentation is disappointing. This band deserves better. It would have been preferable to release the two albums as two separate CDs with bonus cuts and more extensive liner notes. However, that said, one cannot go wrong with the music. It remains brilliant, and fans will enjoy this collection. Casual listeners and fans of creative 1980s pop music will also find something of interest here. ~ Aaron Badgley, Rovi
