I was excited to even know that this book was in print. I live in Fredonia, NY where the Cushing boys lived. My house is actually on land that once owned by Alonzo's Grandfather, Zattu. The house where Alonzo lived as a youth with his Mother is just down the street. I found the early part of the book very intersting as I could relate to ti on a very personal level. Last year a monument entitled, Cushing's Battery, was dedicated in the Fredonia Pioneer Cemetary. I though that overall this was a very well written story and very detailed. It captured quite a bit of content of for someone who only lived for 22 years. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a serious lover of Civil War History and has a yearning for understanding the human element behind the war.
